KUALA LUMPUR: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd is considering raising its product prices next year with the price of barley, a key material in brewing beer, forecast to be 35% to 40% higher.

Cost of aluminium cans were 27% higher year-on-year as well amid the recent rise in power tariffs and natural gas rates, managing director Soren Ravn said after a roundtable discussion yesterday.

He said the impact of the rising material cost was minor for this year as a big chunk of its hedging was done a year ago, but it would have a big effect in 2012.

Ravn hopes the excise duties on beer would be maintained in Budget 2012

“A price increase seems to be likely by the way things are moving now. It is still too early to say as we have not done our hedging yet, and another price increase this year would be an unlikely event,” he said.

Earlier in May, the brewer had raised its product prices by 3%, citing rising costs of raw materials such as malt and hops as well as packaging materials.

“The price increase was not super popular, and we don't run around smiling as we have not actually passed around our problems, as we are still sitting on a problem and its a bomb with prices of raw materials coming up rapidly,” he said.

At the roundtable discussion with key customers, trade associations and hoteliers, Ravn said he hoped the Government would maintain the excise duties on beer at the current level in the upcoming Budget 2012.

“It has been a good year, and we will still be investing in the market, but with the continuing growing input cost, and the risk of a possible excise duty hike coupled with a likely price rise in raw material, things would look tough next year,” he said.

The dialogue was held to discuss the beer industry's challenges, potential and future growth in Malaysia.

He said although the group was not expecting a hike in excise duty, it was important for the brewery to speak up now and take nothing for granted.

“With the budget coming up, the Government is obviously looking at potential ways of securing its revenue, and I do think that an increase in excise duty would be counter-productive for the Government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) as I believe tourist arrivals and foreign direct investments are key elements in the ETP,” he said.

He said Malaysia's current excise duties on beer were already the highest in Asia, and in the long run it would work against Malaysia's ambitions to be a tourism hub when competitors like Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia had much lower prices for beer due to much lower excise duties.

The group also noted Malaysia was the only Asean country that saw a decrease in beer consumption from 23.5 to 21.5 litres per capita in 2010 despite no tax increases over the last five years. However, the local premium beer market has been experiencing growth with the sector expanding 20.8% in 2010, compared with 2005.

“There is a misleading notion that by increasing excise duties on beer, tax revenues will be automatically raised. Experiences in other countries show that such a move can lead to increasing smuggling activities and other unintended consequences such as switching to lower priced high alcohol beverages,” Ravn said.

In 2010, government taxes contribution increased to 55% of brewery revenue, but breweries' profit and capital fell to 9% of the revenue.

Carlsberg said that despite the maintenance of excise duties over the last five years, the industry recorded RM1.4bil in total tax contribution in 2010 with a compounded average growth rate of 9.9% in tax revenue from 2006 to 2010.

Currently, Malaysia's excise duty on beer is the second highest in the world after Norway at RM740 per hectolitre (one hectolitre is equivalent to 100 litres).

Meanwhile, a local research house analyst said the possibility of an excise duty hike was still 50:50 although the excise duty had remained the same for the past five years.

“It is very hard to determine right now, as there is no indications from the authorities and even the brewers themselves are unclear,” he said.

He said a hike in excise duty would be difficult to gauge as it would shift consumer consumption behaviour and impact total volume.

“Brewers would usually rely on internal cost savings and improved operational efficiency first, I believe a price hike would be the last resort for the brewers in the face of escalating raw material costs,” he said.

OSK Research said although there has not been a hike in almost six years, one must bear in mind that Malaysia's duties are the second highest globally.

“In view of the government's tourism push and efforts to encourage the return of locals abroad, a hike in duties would only be counter-productive,” it said in a research recently.

Seeking for Kampung (Village) feel ,relaxing small town shop and simple seaside walk ? Come to Tanjung Sepat and have a look yourself. After a tiring work and life from the concrete world and dusty atmosphere, we found an escape for a day trip to Tanjung Sepat.

Basically this is the map of Tanjung Sepat, we started our journey around 7.45am, took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach there.

The Opera - Sunway Pyramid

30-Apr-11 : Reporting in a bar called The Opera in Sunway Pyramid (In front of the main entrance, the Lion Head) . Reached there about 11.30pm , it was so dxxn jAM in there, but luckily there were plenty of car parks in open space car park in front of its resort (if u dun mind walk a short distance) , but I was not bored while on the way to the bar , u guys know that sunway pyramid also one of the prettiest night view in our country. :-)

Monday , one of the most terrible day for most of the people in the world. The day they need to get back to work, wake up early, brush teeth, wash the blur + blue face, walk out from the door , see everything is blueeeee...

Today , I felt blue when working today , is small matter actually. After that something happened, I figured it out that my LApTOP also felt blue today, then it gave me a blue face with a blue smile just as shown below ~!~!!

Lovely dinner moment with my dear , at this restaurant called "Happy Wok" in Tropicana City Mall , 1st floor (full address refer to the end of this post) , for we really felt happy after tasted the food there. At 1st we felt a bit expensive , but we still plan to have a try. As the result , we really satisfied with the taste YUMMY!!

About buying a new car, actually I was thinking of buying a Myvi , then when I was on the way to make my reservation, I saw an Alza parking at roadside. So it attracted my attention, I went for a closer look and I was attracted by its interior. So I was then --> Changed my choice to Perodua Alza :-) . When I reached the Perodua store, a friendly salesman introduced me about this car, within not more than half an hour, I said "Ok, I booked this car !!" LOLZZZZZ , also a lucky moment to meet this friendly and responsible salesman.

The Interior which seriously attracts my attention !!

I drove my car for a few days already, so far until now I feel this is really a good car, not too long not too wide, just exactly nice for everyone. I tested drove in 110km/hour and the steering and the car still in stable condition (i can feel that) , with ABS breaking system, it provides me a safe and smooth breaking during in high speed.

Those who wanna find a friendly and responsible salesman to buy Perodua car, call and let me know and I can introduce this salesman which I deal with now to you. Seriously, nowadays if u wanna find good salesman is hard, so is really lucky day for me to meet this good man :-)

This afternoon when I walked into Uptown to settle something, I saw this Unique "Tank" which was stated COLGATE , a simple but still looked interesting for me due to its Colgate bottle so dxxn big there...They are giving away the colgate plax to everyone passing by no matter in car or pedestrian ... :-)

After I took the photo with my little Nokia cellphone, the promoter gave me 2 small sets of these --> Colgate Plax, havent try b4, will try one day...at the moment I'm using Listerine which is effective for me, make me feel cool and clean after lunch , But REMEMBER Dont accidentally swallow it..lolzz

Most ppl usually plan of going to places in Asia due to :
a) cheaper expenses
b) nice places like Thailand, Vietnam,Ang Kor Wat, Hong Kong, Singapore & etc

But for me , I still prefer Europe or Western Countries:
a) Canada
b) England
c) United States of America
d) Spain
e) Australia
f) Etc

I like the sceneries there, is really attractive and fascinating esp for a person like me who hearts photography so much..Other than that, I can witness different cultures , lifestyles, entertainment, etc.

Although I will feel sucks when I think of the currency MYR (RM)=> $$$ /EUR

The 1st surprise meet in the gents when this both main actors met, this Senator is preparing a speech for his election in a very down mood, but the 'planner' adjust his faith to meet this lovely woman in order to motivate him to proceed his road smoothly...well--> is according to plan

But when thing goes wrong, they come for him..

One of the 'planner' helps him to get what he really want and love, and so the girl decided to let go everything and her original future just for him..

The 'planner' said : If you choose to be with her, you will not only ruin ur dream but also hers,she will become a famous dancer if she is continues to be with Adrian(his Ex) also a professional dancer (roughly is like that)..lolz

At the end, After a long run from the 'planners' , the chairman of the planner is touched by their actions, so their planner book is blanked for their future route...so want to know more, go to watch it ~!~!

Astronomers have dismissed the claims, which centre on a phenomenon called the 'lunar perigee', as pure nonsense.
The moon's orbit around Earth is not a circle, but an eclipse. At its closest approach - the perigee - the moon appears brighter and larger in the sky. When it is furthest away - the apogee - it is smaller and dimmer.
A lunar perigee occurs once a month. However, next week's perigee coincides with a full moon - a combination of events that happen just once every two or three years.
Although it makes a good photo opportunity for astronomers, scientists say it has no impact on Earth.
Previous supermoons took place in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005 - all years that had extreme weather events, the supporters of the supermoon theory say.
The tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people in Indonesia happened two weeks before the January 2005 supermoon. And on Christmas Day 1974, Cyclone Tracy laid waste to Darwin, Australia.
But U.S. astrologer Richard Nolle, who coined the term 'supermoon' in 1979, is convinced that lunar perigees cause natural disasters on Earth.He said the recent supermoon on February 18 helps explain the earthquake that struck New Zealand on February 22.

The combination teamwork of National Geographic team of scientists, engineers, and balloon pilots two weeks to pull off their version of the "Up" house--from the initial assignment through planning, building, and rigging the house and setting it aloft in the clear skies to cheers down below.

The adorable 2,000-pound, 16x16-foot yellow house took to the skies with the aid of 300 weather balloons that grow to 8 feet tall when inflated. From top to bottom, the entire aircraft measured 10 stories high and reached an altitude of 10,000 feet.

It flew for about an hour at dawn from a private airfield east of Los Angeles. Oh, and there were people (of the non-animated variety) aboard.

The floating feat sets a world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted, according to the National Geographic Channel. It filmed the flight as part of a new series called "How Hard Can It Be?" that's set to debut in the fall.

And if you're wondering how hard it can be to set a balloon-supported house aloft, well, "it was pretty hard," Paul Carson, the show's host, notes in the behind-the-scenes video below. "It was very difficult actually."

This white cat, name Rocky , a dog's name for a female cat? Yes it is, but she just like to be with human especially ME , no matter where she go ,other stray cats don't even want to be near with her, they rather find other cats to fight instead of her, well, she is my high class white babe..lolz

This pretty, active and smart looking female cat,name Ah Hua (flower in chinese) , died last year due to lung problem, doctor kept giving her injections but at the end , her contract with God arrived..dxxn, tears almost came out when upload this photo..

This Black crystal eyes Cat name Hei Hei (Black in chinese) , brilliant in flirting and making girlish miaos when she is hungry, so u will definitely feel she is cute and give her food at the end..she in-charge of 1st floor of my house, other cars go out will sure kena chase down..LOLZ

This cat ,name Ugly (not need to Explain ,rite) , although she is ugly, but she is VERY VERY gentle and her fur is dxxn smooth and soft , sort of using softener type..

1st : This model attracted my attention,( after a long walk ).. Took some photos of her, but forget to get contact from her , so that I can hire her to be my model for some photoshoot .. so frens if see this sentence sure will say " Alan, u want make friend is it ?? dun pretend la !!" LOLZZZZZ

2nd : Nowadays doing business really dxxn hard , free here n there, the problem is u free here n there, some even don't look at it and walk away..Kan ko bo lan zai ~!~!

3rd : The part i hate MOST , stuck here for more than 10 minutes or more than that, imagine u just can stuck in a queue and move in just LEss than 1km/hr speed...tiuuuu....

Well, do u guys actually COUNT our little local car before when u on the street or highway?

This morning while I was walking in my neighborhood in Damansara Jaya, I figured out there are many perodua cars here, one of the example is this perodua Kelisa (archieved product now) , the special thing about it were these 3 cars parked in the same row with same colour ...

Well , I don't think u guys want me to count Myvi I guess,

they are almost EEEEverywhere..lolzz

Perodua (value for money) + low maintenance

= superb choice for u and me ~!~!
